Interesting book, not your usual regency romance. I did get a bit confused though, about what parts were flashbacks and what was the present time but that did not detract from being a good read. Something Wicked The Wicked Game Series Olivia Fuller 9781482041903 Books Reviews
I Loved it, highly recommended! Danielle Steel's got nothing on her, I can't wait to read the rest of her books!
I like how the book takes off from the viewpoint of Angela's cousin. I love the fun banter between Mary and Greg. Mary reminded me of my headstrong friend. They are both adventurous and occasionally wreckless. I did have trouble followng the flashbacks since I never pay attention to dates in the book. I look forward to the next book! -Linnea.
Mary's very best friend has run off with a man and left her to socialize amongst the rest of their tedious 18th century society alone. No one can replace her, and she is left bored and unsure how to proceed without Angela by her side. Mary has a male best friend but Greg isn't the same as her female bestie. Life is not as rich or vibrant all of a sudden and it's left her...well bored.
So she says, "I'm going to act like a man!" and she sheds the typical woman role to absorb her true self which is strong, stubborn, smart, much much more but strong is the big one. She's a rock in her decisions. So, she tells Greg she wants to "act like a man" and become a courtesan. Mary despises the word "lady" because she feels that you lose your identity; that it is the "absence of being a person."
The author paints quite the relationship between Mary and Greg, as they are not officially an item. She fills the pages with true-to-life dialogue. Her writing style is very graceful and flowing. She depicts the love between the pair so eloquently. The entire story read so easily that when it was over I sat there for a few seconds, highly disappointed that there was no more left to read.
So what happens to Mary? Well, Greg loves her so dearly, but what is this I am reading about another man? Chapter 2 starts you off with a bang and you learn all about how Mary became...well...Mary.
What a beautiful love story, so well -written and full of heart-quickening romance. The way the pair avoid a relationship really gets your blood going in frustration and excitement because maybe...just maybe...(although the authors ability to pull you in has a lot to do with that!)
The romance of the century. The author has a strong grasp on the framework of social structures and human interactions. She really makes you a part of this romance and that is a rare rare rare gift. Sweet, sassy, smart, curl-your-toes love story. What a treat!
Well written. Even if I hadn't read the first book in the series, it would still have been just as good.
Nick and Sam need to take more than a digital red pen. There were a lot of typos and incorrect English. Not only that and maybe this is a printing problem; however, you would read a line and there was most of the word and the last letter was on the next line. Or there would only be one word on a line. I usually go ahead and get all of the books at one time. If I had not already had them, I would not buy any more.
It was rambling on so that it was confusing. Was all the bantering really necessary. Finally I skipped over those parts. Hope Ellie's story will be better.
Not a lot to say but loved this book. Strong female lead and unique story. Loved the hero. Will read the next and whatever else she puts out.
Interesting book, not your usual regency romance. I did get a bit confused though, about what parts were flashbacks and what was the present time but that did not detract from being a good read. I recommend.
