Average everyday, normal women can relate to tales written by Sarah Mayberry, in my opinion.

Audrey Mathews and Zach Black are the protagonists in this latest offering by Sarah Mayberry. Audrey has worked her way up the ladder and Zach Black is relatively new to the company in which they both work. Zach comes armed with diplomas from university while Audrey obtained her experience starting off in the warehouse, obtaining only her GED. They're both vying for the next promotion.

Because Audrey rebelled at the young age of sixteen, her parents never let her forget in ways such as praising her younger sister, Leah, as the next best surgeon in cardiothoracic medicine, clearly making it known that Leah is the favorite and that Audrey is a disappointment. With her overbearing mother and taciturn father as GPs, at times Audrey feels like a failure in their eyes. She makes the best of her abilities by being the best at her job.

Audrey has preconceived notions about Zach. Her initial impression of Zach is that he's a rich playboy type playing at having a "real" job. Unbeknownst to Audrey, Zach has his fair share of heartache dealing by having a mother who's a heroine addict since a young boy. Everything Zach has, he's worked hard for while taking care of his mother the best he can.

Audrey and Zach are paired together to work on a presentation for the new CEO. It's not until this occurs that they begin to learn about each other, becoming friends first, and sharing the everyday burdens including the downsizing the new CEO puts into motion. As their friendship develops, their attraction becomes stronger where both decide a "one night stand" is acceptable, only once they've had their "one off", they can't stop thinking about each other. I love how once they become a couple, they're each other's biggest supporter and cheerleader.

You'll also get a glimpse of how Audrey and Leah reach out to one another as adults, acknowledging how they were never close growing up and addressing the issues brought on by their parents dictating how they should become adults (Leah's story is the novella "Her Favorite Temptation")

Reading how they navigate around each other as their relationship develops and while dealing with everyday office matters at the same time is realistic and honest.

I can't praise Sarah Mayberry's writing style enough. She's one of the few Harlequin authors that is an automatic purchase for me.

Her Favorite Rival Harlequin Superromance Sarah Mayberry 9780373718726 Books Reviews

After reading Her Favorite Temptation, I jumped straight into this one.

It's the story of Audrey (Leah's sister) and Zach Black (don't you just love that name?!)

While I found the novella to be a little too fast paced, this book dragged in the middle so much so I was actually bored. Thankfully, it didn't last for too long and it picked up again.

The blurb outright lies. Office romance wasn't so much forbidden (against company policy) as it was... They had their own hangups about it because they're both shooting for the same promotion and there are layoffs ahead. Which I understood so it was okay.

I liked Audrey, but I LOVED Zach. Like mad love for the nice guy hero who's not a womanizing douchelord or a commitment phobe.

What I liked most though is that when shit hits the fan, the author does something *gasp* different than you'd expect! Do I love it when characters know what they have and are willing to fight to keep it no matter what? Why yes, I do! As a matter of fact, I have just upped my rating to five stars for this alone!

Writing is awesome, loved the no-drama-nonsense plot. Both characters are likable and relatable, and the secondary characters are great (I loved the little glipses of Leah!)
There are a couple of sex scenes for those who like to know these things...they're (a bit too) long but I like how she keeps it fresh in every book, haha. All her sex scenes are different! The chemistry between Zach (Black) and Audrey is off the charts, from their first "rival" page to the very end. Loved it!

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this book. Especially if you're a fan of old-school romance. Now I have to wait for her next book, god knows when that'll be...
I fell completely in love with Sarah Mayberry's books and every new one I read, my love only grows.

When I read Her Favorite Temptation, I just couldn't stop and when I finished it, I had like this emptiness feeling as if something really good had ended. Audrey left me so curious I couldn't wait to read her 'side of the story' and I counted the days for Her Favorite Rival to come out. Here's the explanation for 0.5 stars I'm taking away - I don't know if it was meant to be like this, but I was expecting Audrey's story to happen after Leah's, so we'd get more of how their relationship grew - or not. And I was really looking forward to seeing Leah and Will's future through Audrey's eyes. It so happens that we don't get this and I was a bit disappointed. Also, the scenes that had already been shown in Leah's book sounded a little different, even though they're the same. As I'm an easily attached to details kind of person, that got my attention in a bad way too.

Anyway, for Zach and Audrey - I just absolutely love them. Zach is such a dreamy guy, I wish characters could come to life *sigh* lol both characters are very well developped and their relationship seems so natural, I believed in everything.

Zach and Audrey are both workaholics, with a complicated family and sharing the same goal, which is a promotion in the company they both work at. They feel a strong push towards each other but battle it as much as they can, since work relationships are not a good idea most of the time. Except, when Audrey's vision of Zach changes after she learns more about him, it becomes even harder to resist this 'thing' between them, so they cave.

Some attempt at a 'one night only' is made, but they just can't stay apart. Then comes trouble and one of the best scenes in the book and, finally, the happy end. Which isn't an end, since the promotion haven't come to either of them at work yet and that could put a damp on any relationship.

Afraid of revealing too much, I'll just end my review by thanking Sarah for this amazing story and telling everyone to go right ahead and give it a chance. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it!
